An Italian physician, poet, and scholar in mathematics, geography and astronomy. Fracastoro subscribed to the philosophy of atomism, and rejected appeals to hidden causes in scientific investigation (<a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girolamo_Fracastoro>Wikipedia</a>).
