Jane Hamilton wanted to be a writer from an early age. She wrote her first novel at thirteen. She attended Cornell University in the English and Religious Studies programs. In 1994, her first book, The Guardian, was published under the her maiden name. In 1995, she enrolled in the Master's writing program at the State University of New York in Brockport. In 1995, she married, changed her name to Jane Lebak, and had five children. In 2008, her second novel, Seven Archangels: Annihilation was published.
