<Africa needs much faster economic growth and more effective economic, financial, and social policies if it is to make up for lost ground and reduce the number of people living in abject poverty. This seminar volume considers ways for countries to sustain and accelerate growth in an increasingly globalized environment, focusing on how to encourage privae investment and strengthen the contribution of government. What is needed, say the authors, is transparency and accountability, or good governance; country ownership of reform; and a more comprehensive approach toward reforms, with better communication both within African countries and between African countries and the rest of the world.>
