The distribution of welfare and household production

When the overall economic pie is not growing, then how it is shared out becomes more important. In short, there is a demand for answers to questions such as: What is actually happening to welfare? Do the income statistics used to chart trends really give us the full picture about people's economic fortunes? Is the experience of one's own country better or worse than other countries? How does a person's well-being relate to the household in which they live; more fundamentally, how do households produce welfare?
