Issues in policing

All of the key issues in Canadian policing are examined: the roles police play in society, police stress, discretion, the use of force, secrecy, accountability, corruption, and the idea of community policing. In addition, the historical development of policing is traced through the Agricultural and Industrial Eras, culminating in the Informational Era of today. Stansfield looks at community policing in light of the challenges presented by multiculturalism. He also considers the problems of policing in the context of crimes perpetrated on the "information highway."
