The witch of Cologne

Ruth Elazar ben Saul is a beautiful Jewish midwife charged by an Inquisitor with heresy in 17th-century Germany. Being the daughter of her city's chief rabbi and having a reputation as the best midwife in the region do nothing to help her case. But nobleman Detlef von Tennen, cousin of the archbishop, suspects that something other than religion drives Ruth's persecution. Soon, he finds himself falling in love with the intelligent, exotic woman--something that will dramatically change the course of both their lives.
