Beyond the shore

England, 1937. When Georgie Franklyn's father dies, leaving massive debts, artistic Georgie turns to dear friend James Bartlett. He has long wished to make her his wife, and she accepts his proposal, hopeful that the sort of love she dreams of will grow between them. But their tentative relationship is complicated by the presence of lonely Muriel, Georgie's much-loved stepmother, who comes to live with them. Then Georgie finds work managing an art gallery and meets Dominic Fraser. She stifles the attraction she feels toward Dom out of loyalty to James, but as the storm-clouds gather and the country prepares for war, both Georgie and Muriel determine to seize their last chances at happiness - whatever the cost.
